Improving Lives Community Initiative

Improving Lives is a community initiative supported by Mission Care. It helps vulnerable adults, including those living with dementia, enjoy a range of activities. These include days out, trips to places near and far or simply new experiences which bring happiness.

At Mission Care, we have always valued the importance of regular activities and the contribution they make to improving our residents’ lives. A meaningful activity session is vital for not only creating and developing social interactions and experiences for residents, it also helps to keep them active, feel appreciated and part of a community. Activities that reflect pastimes, preferences and hobbies also help improve residents’ memory, dexterity and confidence levels.

Over time, our Improving Lives programme has seen our residents enjoy a range of activities, big and small. From visiting the Tower of London, to enjoying fish and chips on Hastings seafront, taking a trip on the London Eye, feeding animals at Christmas Tree Farm and exploring the Cutty Sark.

They have also upholstered a Victorian nursing chair, baked tasty cupcakes, set up a book club, made honey with a renowned beekeeper and painted a watercolour scene under the watchful eye of established local artist, Raphael.

This is in addition to many valuable moments one-to-one with dedicated activities carers, enjoying activities such as hand massages, reminiscence therapies and chair-based exercise sessions – all of which benefit those living with dementia or who may be physically frail. Improving Lives is funded by proceeds from Mission Care’s charity shops, On a Mission, as well as Mission Cafe – our community cafe in the heart of Bromley that has a special focus on providing a safe, comfortable and supportive environment for people living with dementia and those who care for them. Therefore, your purchases really do help.
